Cronos: The New Dawn: Key Item Locations & Interactive Tracking Guide

Key Items in Cronos: The New Dawn are mandatory objects required to unlock new areas, solve environmental puzzles, and advance the story. These range from traditional keys and electronic access cards to secret codes and ritual statuettes.

Unlike ammo or crafting materials, Key Items cannot be discarded, though they will occupy your limited inventory slots until they are used.

One specific item serves as a "Master Key" for much of the game’s optional and mandatory content: The Bolt Cutters. Found early in the Hardware Store, this item is used to break chains on doors throughout every region.

To help you track your progress, Key Items are generally divided into three categories:

1. Keys and Access Cards

These are physical items found in the environment or gifted.

  • Story Keys: Mandatory items like the Steelworks Master Key or the Police Master Key that are required to reach the next "Dive Point."
  • Optional Keys: Items like Father Wojciech's Office Key or the Toy Store Key, which often lead to hidden weapons like the Arbalest or Lance.
  • Traveler’s Seals: Special keys often dropped by Hidden Cats that unlock secure Outposts.

2. Door and Safe Codes

Many barriers in Cronos: The New Dawn are locked behind keypads. You must find specific Files or environmental clues (like the "Angela's Birthday" photo) to discover these:

3. Puzzle Statuettes

In the Abbey region, progression is tied to a major environmental puzzle involving six Statuettes:

  • You must locate the Child, Sword, and Trident statuettes to complete the set (the Sickle, Cauldron, and Shield are usually found near the puzzle itself).

Some Key Items are found in "past" timelines that become inaccessible once you return to the future. Always thoroughly explore an area—especially Safe Rooms and Manager Offices—before interacting with a Dive Point to make sure you haven't left a vital key behind.

Because missing a key item can halt your progress entirely, knowing their exact locations is fairly important, so all of them have been marked on our interactive Cronos: The New Dawn maps and also listed below.
